An island like in the fairy tales of 1001 nights
The Zanzibar archipelago is located 6° south of the equator off the east coast of Africa. The archipelago consists of the main islands of Unguja and Pemba, as well as more than 50 associated side islands. Unguja is the largest as well as the most popular island and is colloquially known as "Zanzibar". Zanzibar traded with Pharaonic Egypt as early as 2,500 BC and was one of the most important trading metropolises in the Indian Ocean for a long time. In the 19th century, Zanzibar was the most successful clove producer in the world. The ideal climatic conditions continue to produce the highest quality spices to this day.
In the midst of Stone Town, Zanzibar's capital city steeped in history, the headquarters of 1001 Organic has been located since 2012. The impressive architecture and the narrow, winding streets, make this place unique. Mosques, churches and Hindu temples are located in close proximity to African markets as well as old trading houses. In 2000, Stone Town was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
To experience the magic of the island, all you have to do is take a deep breath through your nose and let your eyes wander through Stone Town's bustling alleys.
